Where dreams take shape, and education rises from the heart of Baghdad to reach the world.
At a pivotal moment in life, Ms. Rawah Alostah, Co-Founder, CEO, and Head of School, made a bold decision: not to leave Baghdad, and not to leave her husband who worked there, but to build a school where her children could receive a world-class education without losing their roots or identity.
After years of seeking the right school in Beirut, London, and Erbil, she realised the time had come to create that dream herself and bring her children home to Baghdad.
With determination, trusted friends, and the guidance of international experts, she achieved the impossible by securing the Iraqi government’s approval to establish international schools in Iraq for the very first time. This historic milestone was granted under the leadership of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani.
And so, Baghdad British International School (BBIS) was born, nestled within the Al-Nasim Residential Complex off Baghdad Airport Road.
A new model of education. Unlike anything seen before.
Here, British education meets the hopes of Iraqi families. Here, an exceptional international faculty from the UK, USA, Australia, South Korea, South Africa, Pakistan, and Tunisia teach with unmatched passion and excellence. Here, the first AI and Robotics Centre in an Iraqi school was established, giving students a rare opportunity in the Middle East to explore the world of artificial intelligence before the school year even begins.
At BBIS, we do not just promise education, we promise a future.
